A fresh face in AC Crew Education, Victor has been cutting hair since his early teens in his parent’s garage. Not yet able to drive, he yearned for a cut like his treasured barber on the outskirts of town vs. getting a quick (disappointing) mall haircut. Victor credits AC education for teaching the principals, or the “why” behind the techniques and not just the kinesthetics. Armed with this knowledge, Victor is committed to knowledge sharing his methodology and providing urban barbers the tools they need for success. His goal is to marry the skills for hair cutting with business acumen, professionalism, and keys to retention that many barbershops struggle with.

My informal career path actually started in 1996, in my mom’s kitchen with a pair of Wahl’s clippers and fabric scissors. After graduating high school, I attended a university and took a few basic courses but still wasn’t sure of my direction. I had been working hard for about a year, where I was setting up the customer service department for the company I was working for, and I was suddenly laid off. In June of 2010, I started going to cosmetology school. The reason I started in this industry was initially out of necessity.

This adventure took me until April 2011 to finish. I started working in a salon right after graduating. I went back to school to get my instructors license in October 2011 and finished my 750 hours in April of 2012. Right after graduating, I had a job already waiting for me at Ogle School of Hair, Skin and Nails.

I worked the evening program for 2 years and then got a transfer to the day program at another location for Ogle. I worked the day shift for the following 2 1/2 years. I had a total of 4 1/2 years at Ogle when I decided I needed to get back behind the chair and be more in depth with men’s cuts. This is 2015, and I’m looking to jump! I was about to leave a full-time job with benefits and go do something that I was not in total control of. Having a family to provide for this was a serious jump.
I’m so glad that I made this move! It opened my eyes up to how amazing this industry truly is. I gained so much knowledge and ultimately became a better stylist for it .

Working at Floyds was great but I needed more. A high-end men’s salon heard of my education and of my skills and asked me to do a product knowledge class as an audition to work for them. I did a great class and got the job. With this job came the chance to go to barber school, all paid for, to get my crossover license. I went for 300 more hours and got done by May 2016.

At this point I now have My Cosmetology and Barber Operator’s license and my Cosmetology Instructor and Barber Instructor licenses. This opened more doors for me. I worked for this men’s salon for 8 months before an opportunity came up that I couldn’t pass up. The owners of The Boardroom Salon for Men wanted to open up a school that taught their stylist how to become barbers. With all my background in education it was just a natural progression for me to get back into a school. Brighton Barber Institute opened its doors on July 2017. While opening up the school I also auditioned to be an educator for American Crew. In March 2017, I got the most amazing news that I was accepted to be part of the American Crew team.

Currently I am still educating at Brighton Barber Institute and have now been promoted to level 2 within the education team at American Crew. The sky is the limit from here on.

My journey as a barber started twenty-one years ago as I had completed my tour of duty in the US Army. I always knew barbering was a passion that needed to be explored and so I began an apprenticeship at a small but vibrant barbershop in Cranston, RI called Joe’s Salon. Real-world learning solidified my desire to make this not just a job but my career. In 2003 I opened my first shop, Kingdom Cuts, in Pawtucket, RI and in 2008 I opened Scott Anthony’s first in Milford, MA and then at its present location in East Providence, RI.
Recognizing the importance of education in developing this craft, I worked as a barber instructor in Rhode Island and was a director of a barbering school in Fitchburg, MA at Alexander Academy and assistant barber instructor at Major League Barber Academy in West Haven, CT. I also served with the Massachusetts Barber Board in revising the regulations for the industry.
From this vantage point, I could see new trends and growth in the barber industry and was able to participate in a number of events designed to showcase the impact of barbering in the modern world. I was awarded first place in both the Massachusetts and New York barber competitions/battles. Served as a judge at the world-famous CT Barber Expo and at regional competitions and expos in Worcester, MA and Providence, RI. My talents were employed at the International Beauty Show in New York City and the America's Beauty Show in Chicago representing Oster as a platform artist and as the personal barber to actor Frank Grillo on the set of the film The Purge. My work has been featured in Master Barber Magazine, Solid Gold Magazine and as Barber of the Month on BarbershopConnect.com.
Never being content to stand still, I have always been looking to improve myself and my craft, always learning, always growing. From my many years of working trade shows, I admired the American Crew product and presentation. I loved watching their platform artists and was drawn to their image and branding. I told myself, “I am going to be a part of this amazing team!” It took some time and dedication on my part, but I am proud to say I succeeded and I am making an impact on men's grooming with American Crew!

Taylor often looks back fondly at the path she has taken to become the stylist that she is today. She has been passionate about hair since she performed her first haircut at the young age of four. Taylor enrolled in hair school at Hair Professionals when she was 16 years old. While attending cosmetology school, she was captivated with cutting hair, specifically men's hair. In 2013, Taylor started her career in a men's focused salon in Chicago where she was first introduced to American Crew.

In the early months of her professional career, Taylor felt as though she was in way over her head. She found herself working next to stylists who had been in the industry for 5+ years, some for as long as she had been alive. Taylor was sure of two things: she could provide phenomenal customer service, and, if she stuck to the American Crew cutting method, she would find her way to consistent results.

What has ultimately drawn Taylor to American Crew is the reliability of haircuts, products, and education. The method has provided her with the tools to become a dependable hair stylist.
